The Top 7 Ice Cream Parlours in Madrid

April 7, 2017

Summer is just around the corner. If you have been in Madrid for a long time, you no doubt know how hot it gets. If you haven’t experienced a Madrid summer, you’re in for a treat. Whatever the weather will be, one of the top things to do in Madrid when it is baking hot will be to have some ice cream. There are so many ice cream parlours dotted around the city. In the 2 years I’ve been MuchBiting around the city, I have had my fair share of amazing ice creams.

To save you the search, this post will give you the Top 7 Ice Cream Parlours around the city that you will have to try during the coming months of intense heat. Trying each and every one of these ice cream parlours will be one of the best things to do in Madrid over the next few months. Without further ado, here they are in no particular order…

Gelateria la romana

There are two locations for this excellent parlour. However, the one we recommend is on Paseo de la Habana. A quiet corner of the city near the Real Madrid Stadium. There are few shops there as well so you will be able to eat your ice cream and enjoy a spot of shopping away from the really busy centre spots of Madrid.

rocambolesc

This ice cream is the product of one of Catalonia’s famed chefs, Jodi Roca. With his Michelin stars he went on to create these ice creams. They are simply delicious and out of this work. There are a good few favourites to try which include the baked apple. Be sure not to miss the toasted brioche ice cream sandwich! It will rock your world. As this place is summer famous, try going during the week and at all costs avoid Friday and Saturday peak times. You will love it

heladeria borgonesse

Borgonesse is surprising in that the ice creams are soft and fluffy and above all delicious. Given the fact that they are on Calle Gran Via, you would generally have expected an expensive sub-par product. However what you get is phenomenal. When you do make it there, it will all be revealed.

Bico de xeado

This place originates from Coruna and means ice cream kiss. Their ice creams are made from fresh milk from their own cows that they have on their farm up there in Coruna. Apart from the fresh milk, the ice creams are flavoured with fresh fruits so no preservatives or any flavour enhancers. What you end up eating is amazing tasting strawberry ice cream, mango ice cream etc etc. Also, if you’ve been in Madrid for a while, you will know how hard it is to get fresh milk. At Bico de Xeado, you can buy fresh milk in glass bottles. This just adds more reasons to love the ice cream parlour

mistura hand crafted ice creams

This place was very hyped when it first opened just over 2 summers ago. They enticed the crowds with their cold granite stone massaged ice creams with fresh flavours worked in. Since then, they have gone from strength to strength opening a few more Misturas around the city. You may be lover of them or not, they are still a good ice cream shop to visit!

Lolos polos artensanos

In a nutshell, this place is ice lollies reinvented for adults. They offer tons of different flavours all made from fresh fruits and herbs. Daily, the shop receives untold amounts of fresh ingredients for them to handcraft the ice lollies they churn out everyday. They have the perfect solution for people who want to enjoy some ice cream in the park. They have polystyrene cooler boxes that make transporting these delicious ice lollies easy peasy in the sweltering summer heat. So add Lolos Polos to your list of summer picnic food suppliers.

Kalua Helado Artesanal

Put simply, there was that time I went to Italy and ate pistachio gelato. It was so good that I promised myself I would never eat ice cream outside of Italy ever again. One day though whilst walking on Calle Fuencarral, I desperately craved ice cream. I walked past Kalua and thought, “what the heck, what do I have to lose?” I ordered their pistachio and was instantly transported back to Italy. It was seriously on par with the one I had had in Italy. Need I say more?
