While Madrid seems to have an endless supply of delicious places to eat, there are some nights when you find yourself looking for dinner plans a bit more exciting than just going to a restaurant. Despite all the things to do in Madrid, maybe you’re longing for the adventure of a different city. Luckily, there’s a spot in the center of Madrid where you can travel to New York City for the night without catching a single flight. Hidden inside the Only YOU Hotel Atocha, you’ll find the Seagram’s New York Hotel. Until the end of March, you can experience the thrill of New York nightlife and the food and drinks that accompany it.
The New York Experience
From the moment you enter, the hotel captures the wonder of a first-time visit to New York. Even for those who’ve been to NYC before, stepping into the lobby feels like seeing the city with fresh eyes. The classy décor pulls together all of the most charming elements of the city, creating an experience that almost feels more luxurious than the one a typical tourist would have in New York City. The main attractions are a cocktail bar in the lobby, a downstairs lounge where shows take place, and a restaurant on the seventh floor.
Each month, the hotel showcases entertainment from some of New York’s premier attractions. Performers fly in straight from NYC, each bringing a unique flair. Weekly shows from the acclaimed Blue Note Jazz Club are a staple, while other performances are only available for a weekend. We were able to catch a night of stand-up comedy featuring the hilarious Chris Duffy. As is the case with all the best things to do in Madrid, there was food involved. While we sipped on martinis and laughed at the jokes, we were served delicious morsels, including a goat cheese, arugula, and truffle oil sandwich.
Food and Drink
One of the best parts of the New York City experience is the food, and here, there is plenty to be had. For an authentic New York meal, head up to the restaurant, where you’ll find dishes from NYC’s top eateries. Each month brings a new dish and culinary experience. Last month featured hot dogs from the iconic Katz’s Delicatessen, accompanied by matzoh ball soup and potato knishes. Dishes in the restaurant retain their original flavors but are presented with an added elegance to suit the atmosphere of the hotel.
The next (and final) restaurant to visit the hotel is Olmsted, from Prospect Heights in Brooklyn. Olmsted’s focus is creating affordable meals with fresh, seasonal ingredients – at their restaurant in New York, many of the dishes include ingredients collected from Olmsted’s backyard garden. If you aren’t in the mood for a full meal, stop by the lobby cocktail bar, where signature cocktails from Clover Club are served every night. It’s the perfect spot to meet up with some friends or make some new ones.
A NIGHT to Remember
From the bright neon lights right down to a barbershop in the lobby, the Seagram’s New York Hotel recreates the magic of New York City. The beauty of the hotel is that you can experience New York at the pace of Madrid. The hustle and bustle of the big city is shut out in favor of a relaxing ambiance. It’s an idealized version of New York City, but that’s what makes it special. For a night, you can step into a new city and feel at home right away. Out of all the things to do in Madrid this month, make sure you don’t miss this one.
The Seagram’s New York Hotel at Only YOU Atocha is open now through March 31.
